NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An investigation is underway after the body of an infant was discovered near Fort Taber in New Bedford Saturday afternoon, authorities announced.
The Bristol County District Attorney's Office said an adult walking along a path by the water at Fort Taber smelled a decaying odor from a nearby blanket.
New Bedford Police responded and found the body of a decomposing infant in the blanket, authorities said.
Officials said the infant's body was transported to the Massachusetts Medical Examiner's Office.
The Bristol County D.A.'s Office, Massachusetts State Police Detectives, and New Bedford Police are actively investigating.
No other information has been released.
