MARLBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A boarding school in Marlborough is putting entrepreneurship, wood working, and general projects at the front of its student curriculum, culminating in a sale event in the spring. The New England Innovation Academy also prioritizes student interests into the humanities, arts, languages, math, and science.

WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe went for a tour of the school, where she met NEIA Founding Board Member & Trustee Matthew Kressy to discuss some of the opportunities the school can offer students. Students learning how to use 3D printing and other design tools, can make their own product which they sell at the NEIA's spring Sales Gala.

"All the students invented a product, designed it, they have to make twenty of them and then sell all twenty at the Sales Gala. So they practice design, entrepreneurship, sales, and marketing. Watching our students just grow and develop and hear them make little comments about how they are inspired to come to school. School should be fun— we made that possible," Kressy said.

One student, Paul of Uganda, says he loves the fact that NEIA is both challenging and fun.

"[It's] something very different to anything I've ever experienced. Learning is one hundred percent hands-on, and you can experiment with different ideas with my interests and my passions," Paul said.

Avery of Shrewsbury says he has to agree with that notion.

"One of the best school experiences we've had, a lot of the teachers hold you accountable for your work unlike a lot of public schools in the area. You get more face to face connection with your teachers," Avery said.
