CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A potential housing crisis for many international students at Harvard University has been averted.
Dozens of international students on financial aid were left scrambling to find alternative housing after the university initially denied applications to stay on campus during winter break.
The rejection led to significant backlash.
More than 280 people signed a petition calling on Harvard to address the issue.
On Monday, Harvard's Housing Office sent an email informing students their recent applications for winter housing has been approved.
The email said it apologized for any 'misunderstanding' over previous communications denying the applications.
The email did not offer an explanation as to why the applications were denied in the first place, or why that decision was reversed.
