Former IRS Agent Gets 7 To 8 Years In Rape Of College Intern

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A former IRS agent has been sentenced to seven to eight years in prison in the 2017 rape of a college intern in a Boston parking garage.

James Clarke, a 46-year-old married father of three from Newton, was convicted in December of raping and choking a college intern inside his taxpayer-provided vehicle on the last day of her internship.

The victim described how Clarke handcuffed her and put his gun in her mouth.

Clarke claimed the encounter was consensual, and that he unloaded the gun before engaging it.

The Boston Globe reports Superior Court Judge Mitchell Kaplan issued the sentence after the victim, now 23, read an impact statement, saying "I am extremely grateful that I am alive" and calling Clarke's version of events "pathetic."

Prosecutors had asked Clarke serve 14-18 years. He was ordered to spend 10 years on probation after his release, and to stay away from the victim, The Globe reported.
