IRS Deadline Approaching To Claim $1,400 Stimulus Check

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — "COVID stimulus check" is a phrase that some people may have forgotten. Furthermore, some can't recall whether they even received one.

"I don't remember."

"Umm, I'm not sure."

These are just a few responses from Bostonians when asked if they were issued the Recovery Rebate Credit.

The Internal Revenue Service estimates that more than one million Americans didn't receive their $1,400 pandemic-related payment from the federal government because they failed to file their 2021 income taxes.

As the annual April 15 tax deadline approaches, Americans are reminded that the three-year deadline to claim the economic impact payment is this year.

The credit was one of three rounds of payments issued to citizens to support the economy during COVID-19. To qualify for the full $1,400 payment, taxpayers' annual income cannot exceed $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for married couples filing jointly.

If you filed your 2021 tax return, you need to wait for the IRS to issue your payment via direct deposit into the bank account information provided on your 2023 tax return or receive a check by mail.
