BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Island Creek Oysters in the Seaport went all out to celebrate National Oyster Day, which is on August 5.

The restaurant rolled out a secret menu with items such as a dressed oyster with tomato and candied serrano and caprese sliders with caviar, and tuna carpaccio.

Island Creek manager Jason Cool talked about how this Seaport location will only be around for a few months, but they’re happy to spread the word about them.

“We’re here for the summer through October, just bringing a little Duxbury to the Seaport.” Cool said.

Courtney Roach works behind the raw bar, and she says that while there’s a learning curve to shucking oysters and working at a new restaurant, it’s all worth it.

“I’d say practice makes perfect. Not having too much pressure when you open the oyster, having a good twist and turn. But after doing it for a couple days, it becomes second nature,” Roach said. “It’s been a learning experience for all of us, working in such tight quarters, but we have a lot of fun.”

The raw bar also collaborated with hat retailer Project Paulie to release some special Island Creek hats.

“We got some camo involved, got some very special cool blue colors indicative of the ocean,” Cool said.

Project Paulie was started during the pandemic as a way to fight hunger, donating some of its proceeds to various charities.

Some of the proceeds to this specific merch rollout are going towards protecting the coastline and building sustainable oyster farms through the Island Creek Oyster Foundation.
