BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A worldwide IT outage has affected flights across the U.S., including Delta, United, and American Airline flights at Boston Logan International Airport.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said the outage happened during a software update overnight Friday. Flights, banks, and hospitals were among the places affected.

Some travelers at Logan that WBZ NewsRadio spoke to were frustrated to find out that their flight was delayed or canceled when they were already at the airport, with no email or other notification beforehand.

"The notifications were not working is what we were told," one traveler said. "We didn't get an email or anything like that notifying us."

Travelers like Rasheed desperately searched for travel alternatives after his business travel plans screeched to a halt.

"I'm on hold with BCD Travel right now," Rahseed said. He also did not receive a notification that his flight was canceled.

"Obviously Microsoft is down. Just trying to get online and see what I can do get a hotel and probably stay the night," Rasheed said.

However, some travelers took the disruption in stride. One person said they were happy that they did not have to rush through the TSA line while the outage was ongoing.

Massport said in an emailed statement to WBZ NewsRadio that not all airlines have been affected by this outage.

“At Logan it is just the affected airlines that are in a ground stop, so that’s United, Delta and Allegiant. American was but they seemed to have fixed their system and their ground stop was lifted, according to their twitter. Everyone else is flying fine.”
