FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Patriots fans lined up in Foxborough, Mass. well before the start of training camp.
The New England Patriots hit the field for training camp on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. While the results of last season left a sour taste for some, the fresh faces on the team are keeping a positive outlook for many fans.
Thankfully for the players, they did not have to get to Gillette stadium as some of the fans did. Die-hard Patriots are always racing to see who can get there the earliest for the first practice of the season.
“[It’s a] contest. Whoever could get here first wins bragging rights,” said one woman who left her house around 12:30 a.m. to arrive first.
“It’s always her too, always, every year,” said another man not quite quick enough to win the race.
Aside from bragging rights, the fans who arrived at the crack of dawn want the best view of what lies ahead for the upcoming season.
“I like coming to camp for the proximity to the players and just seeing the interaction. It’s tradition. Every summer it brings the spirit alive,” said one fan. “We drive up from Florida every year.”
“I’m excited. [I’m] looking forward to a good season and this is how we start it off every year,” said another fan.
