BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Mourners celebrated the life of a beloved steer at a farm in Boston over the weekend.
Willard, a 1,500-pound Scottish Highlander steer originally from Vermont, spent 17 years at Allandale Farm in Jamaica Plain. Farm manager Michael Montuori said Willard and his brother Curtis were first brought to the farm to become food, but that quickly changed.
“As soon as we got them, we and the community just fell in love with them and could never do that,” said Montuori.
Willard passed away at the end of March, so the farm decided to host a celebration of life on Sunday. Dozens of people came out to give Willard a proper send off, complete with the wail of bagpipes and even a commendation from the Boston City Council on a life well lived.
“The outpouring of love for both him and Curtis has been incredible,” said one woman in attendance.
Montuori said the community has been showering Curtis with as much love as possible to numb the pain.
“He definitely knows and we can tell, but [we’re] trying to fill the void with our own love and attention,” said Montuori.
