BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – While most people see abandoned buildings as eyesores, one local filmmaker sees them as the perfect backdrop.

Jason Allard is a filmmaker and urban explorer who constantly rummages through rust to find interesting and exciting stories.

“I’ve always had an interest in abandoned places because there’s just so much history there," he explains.

This inspired Allard to launch his YouTube series called “Abandoned from Above.” Through the series, Allard shares New England’s most fascinating abandoned properties captured beautifully by drone.

“The drone itself, I mean, it gives you a whole new perspective of these places,” he said. “It really shows you the scope of the decay and the abandonment that’s happening.”

Some of these places are passed by every day while others are hidden. For example, an abandoned airplane that went down in Rhode Island back in the 1970s that took Allard two months of combing through Google maps to find.

“The plane was so deep in the woods that it was never recovered,” he explained. “It was just left there the same as the day that it crashed.”

Allard has covered other locations ranging from an abandoned milk can factory to a rocking horse graveyard. His YouTube channel has accumulated more than 2.5 million views to date and Allard also manages a full-service multimedia studio called Uncommon Sense Media.
