BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds turned up Presidents' Day as the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum in Dorchester held its annual Family Festival.
Visitors were greeted by actors dressed in period costume, bringing to life U.S. Presidents John Adams and James Madison, as well as their First Ladies, Abigail Adams and Dolly Madison.
The holiday celebration also featured performances and storytelling aimed at engaging visitors as the library preserves the legacy of President Kennedy.
Another special exhibit Monday highlighted the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote.
Maria Quintero, the JFK Library's Outreach and Programs Manager, told WBZ NewsRadio's Mike Macklin the "living history" was in keeping with President Kennedy's belief in learning lessons from the past.
"We feel that history continues to be relevant, always," she said. "President Kennedy himself being a great lover and student of history, always believed that learning from the past, one of the most important facets was to apply it to the present in order to build a future. We like to continue to provide those opportunities here at the Kennedy Library."
