BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — At City Hall Plaza in Boston on Tuesday, it was every kid’s dream come true, as the Jimmy Fund’s Scooper bowl made its grand return to the city for the first time in five years! The event was delayed by the pandemic and a major City Hall renovation.

The concept of the event is simple, as with the price of admission, participants can eat as much ice cream as their hearts content. The event runs through Thursday of this week, and the proceeds from the event go directly toward Dana Farber Institute in the fight against cancer.

WBZ NewsRadio was there and took a poll of some of the flavors that ice cream lovers at the event prefer the most.

“I’m a simple guy I’m going to go with chocolate, just nice and simple,” said one participant.

“Cookies and Cream, and um... cookie dough!” said another.

Even Boston Mayor Michelle Wu was excited about the return of the event.

“It’s been five years since we’ve been able to celebrate this beloved tradition on the plaza due to renovations and the pandemic and all that so, it finally feels like things are where they should be," said Wu.

For those at the event who were scooping the ice cream, they were in for a wrist workout.

“I’ve seen a lot of mango and a lot of half-baked be favored,” said a scooper.

It is expected that some 10,000 gallons of ice cream will be favored over three days.
