DEDHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — After more than eight weeks of testimony, jurors in the Karen Read murder trial have begun deliberations.

On Tuesday they heard closing arguments and received instructions from the judge.

44-year-old Karen Read of Mansfield is accused of striking her boyfriend John O'Keefe with the back of her SUV while dropping him off at a Canton home on January 29, 2022 during a snowstorm.

Her and O'Keefe were both drinking heavily that night.

O'Keefe's body was later found in the front yard.

Read's defense lawyers deny the charges and claim she's being framed by others who knew O'Keefe.

The defense alleges someone else is responsible for O'Keefe's death by beating him inside the basement of the home and dragging his body outside.

Read left the courtroom Tuesday at about 2:30 in the afternoon and was met by a roar from the crowd gathered outside the courthouse.
