KINGSTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Macy’s at the Kingston Collection is closing its doors.
The Kingston location is just one of the Macy’s stores shutting down — the company announced earlier this year that it would be closing 150 of its stores. Other local locations include Hanover and Braintree.
Kingston shoppers are disappointed, but not surprised.
“It’s sad. I grew up here and I’ve shopped here,” said one local resident.
The space in the Kingston Collection was bought by investment firm Second Horizon Capital in a sale-leaseback transaction.
Either a Macy’s or their predecessor, Filene’s, has occupied the space since 1989. The store plans to stay open until early next year.
“I’m very disappointed, I love it. I’m wearing these clothes from Macy’s,” said another local resident.
Residents will miss the classic department store that hosts a wide variety of merchandise.
“The small stores and the boutiques are wonderful, but Macy’s is the anchor,” said another local resident.
