WINCHESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The WWE superstar who won Wrestlemania 35 last night has local ties.

Kofi Kingston defeated Daniel Bryan to become just the second-ever black WWE champion in WWE history.

But before he was a WWE champ, Kingston, whose real name is Kofi Sarkodie-Mensah, wrestled at Boston College—and before that, he was captain of the wrestling team at Winchester High.

The Winchester High School wrestling program even tweeted congratulations to him after his big win:

"While a wrestler at Winchester High School, Kofi was a captain, a Sectional Champion, finished 2nd place at Sates and placed 4th in All-States," according to the Winchester Wrestling website.

His portrait even hangs in the wrestling room at Winchester High School.
