LAWRENCE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A month after DPW worker Marcos "Tony" Antonio Ruiz was shot and killed while performing roadwork on a Lawrence street, an arrest has been made.
Ariel Toribio, 20 of Lawrence, was arrested and charged with murder Friday, Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett's office said in a release.
Ruiz was shot as he filled potholes for the city on January 15 at Andover and Clifton Streets.
Investigators said at the time that they did not believe Ruiz was the intended target of the shooting.
At Ruiz's funeral on January 23, his casket was proceeded by a street sweeper and escorted by fellow public works employees from all over the state.
Blodgett's office said Ruiz's family asked for privacy, and had no comment.
Toribio is set to be arraigned Monday in Lawrence Superior Court.
