HAVERHILL, Mass (WBZ NewsRadio) — Authorities say a Lawrence Police officer has been arrested and charged with raping a 13-year-old boy.
Carlos Rivera, 49, was arrested Monday by Massachusetts State Police in Haverhill after a month-long investigation according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
According to the District Attorney, the victim’s mother contacted their office reporting that her son had allegedly met Rivera using a social media app and engaged in sexual activity with him in the summer of 2018.
Rivera was charged with two counts of aggravated rape of a child and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
He was subsequently placed on administrative leave from the Lawrence Police Department. Authorities say that Rivera is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday in Lawrence District Court.
