LAWRENCE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A worker for the City of Lawrence Department of Public Works was shot and killed while performing road repair Wednesday afternoon, the Essex District Attorney's office said.
Marcos A. Ruiz-Rodriguez, 52 of Methuen, was shot in the area of Andover and Clifton Streets around 2 p.m. He was described as a "long-time employee" of the Lawrence DPW.
He was taken to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators do not believe Ruiz-Rodriguez was the intended target of the shooting. No arrests have yet been made.
"This is an active and fluid investigation," the Essex DA's office said in a release. "At this time, it is inappropriate to comment on suspects or possible motive. When further information is available, it will be released."
