MELROSE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Multiple grave markers in Melrose were toppled over Saturday afternoon when a Range Rover crashed into a cemetery.

The Melrose Police Department says that the incident happened at the Wyoming Cemetery on Sylvan Street, when a 53-year-old Melrose woman with her learner's permit was practicing driving and knocked over eight headstones.

Officials say the woman was accompanied by a relative who is a licensed operator at the time of the crash, and that the two occupants of the vehicle were uninjured.

Several of the headstones were damaged following the crash, but all afflicted markers were set upright by the members of the Department of Public Works, police said.

The MPD says that preliminary investigation shows that the learning driver lost control of the vehicle, which caused the older model Range Rover to collide with the headstones. The crash remains under investigation, officials said.
