BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A big win on Christmas Day wasn't enough for Boston Celtics' player Marcus Smart. After the team's victory against the Milwaukee Bucks (118-139) at TD Garden, Smart proposed to his girlfriend but not before pulling one over on his fanbase with a series of late night "troll" tweets.

The first cryptic tweet came from Smart at 10:52 p.m. that read "Guess what." Five minutes later, Smart followed up saying "I’ve had enough. Been holding it in too long and it’s about time this gets said." At this point he had the fanbase's attention, the interactions on his second tweet nearly doubled the first.

Then Smart dropped the big one:

Luckily the basketball player didn't leave people to their imaginations for too long, he posted his final tweet in the series saying that he meant he was leaving the single life.

Fans in the replies called it a cruel joke, but others were just happy to find it was a false alarm and congratulated the newly engaged couple.

On Instagram, video shows Smart's proposal involving a video of Will Smith in Antarctica saying to his fiancé "I promise you are not going to end this Christmas empty handed." From there she turned around to see Smart down on one knee (she said yes, by the way).
