BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A night to honor old school Motown classics, R&B, and soul is happening at The Strand Theatre in Dorchester Saturday night, thanks to local legend Fred LeBlanc, also known as Skippy White.

"This is going to be a night to remember," White said.

White has been a staple in the Boston music scene for years. The former WILD-AM disc jockey and owner of Skippy White's Records franchise says he is still finding ways to share his love of rhythm and blues and soul with the people of Massachusetts.

"I love the classic R&B, so therefore I want people to be able to enjoy it, be able to come and see these acts while they're still here, and it's something that does my heart good."

White sold soul, gospel, and R&B CDs in Boston for more than six decades. He says what he misses most about his stores are the people.

"Everybody that came in, I would greet and talk to them and get to know them. And so people grew up with me in the record store," White remarked. "I mean, I had people that started out coming in my record store when they were 8 and 10, and 12 years old. And I watched them grow up and eventually get gray hair."

Last year, White organized a blues and soul revue at Medford's Chevalier Theatre, which drew nearly 2000 people to Medford. This year, he is paying tribute to acts like The Temptations, Diana Ross and The Supremes, and The New Stylistics at The Strand Theatre in Dorchester with 'The Big Show: Skippy White's Tribute To The W.I.L.D. Dee Jays.'

"I think this is the place to have a show like this," White said.
