BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The LEGO Group is building a home in Boston brick by brick, announcing a $1 million donation to the Boston Public Library on Monday.

In the next two years, the million-dollar grant will create interactive learning programs for more than 150,000 children throughout Greater Boston.

According to the toy company, this partnership aims to promote early literary for kids under nine years old by donating thousands of books and toys to hospitals and community partners.

In addition, the LEGO Group also plans to expand STEM education by adding more LEGO Clubs to dozens of library branches. This will also add more funding and staffing to local libraries.

This summer, the two organization will host a youth design competition, “culminating in a LEGO Master Builder mural at the Central Library in Copley Square.”

BPL President David Leonard called this fund a “transformative” investment that “builds on the Boston Public Library’s roles of lifelong learning partner and community engager.”

The partnership comes just days after the toy manufacture opened a new U.S. headquarter location at 1001 Boylston St.

The toy company has also made donations to the Museum of Science and the Boston Children's Museum.
