BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Lenox Hotel in Boston was safely evacuated after a transformer explosion Saturday afternoon, officials said.

Boston Fire said the explosion happened in the back of the hotel, causing excessive smoke through the building.

There was no fire in the building and no injuries reported, officials said.

Fire companies used multiple fans throughout the hotel to vent out the smoke.

Eversource workers are on scene to determine the cause of the explosion, while building and electrical inspectors will check the hotel for any damages, authorities said.

According to Boston Fire Chief Martin McCormick, it is not known when guests will be allowed back inside.

Dan Donahue, President of Saunders Hotel Group which owns the Lenox, told WBZ NewsRadio that other hotels—The Colonnade Hotel, Fairmont Copley Plaza Boston, and The Newbury Boston—have agreed to let Lenox guests stay with them for the night.
