Levitate Kicks Off Three-Day Music Festival In Marshfield

MARSHFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — This weekend, 45,000 music fans will descend on the Marshfield Fairgrounds for the Levitate Music & Arts Festival featuring performances by Tedeschi Trucks Band, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, and Damian Marley.

Now in it's seventh year, 2019 marks the first time the festival expands to three days. "In our area there was a lack of something like this and the event's always been really authentic," founder Dan Hassett tells WBZ NewsRadio. "I think people enjoy that it was launched out of a surf and skate shop."

Unlike marquee festivals, Levitate places a focus on local acts while still managing to pull in big crowds. "This year is the year we have by far the most truly local bands," Hassett says. "We've been successful as we've grown in doing the opposite of what a lot of larger festivals do. We've actually included more and more local bands."

The goal for Hassett and his team? "To bring people together through surfing, and music, and art."
