'Like Sudoku, But Better': Boston Is Split On Gorilla Vs. 100 Humans Debate

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hypothetical questions can take the world by storm and the debate over men versus primate has been no exception.

The question at the top of most people’s minds, especially if they are on social media, has been who would win in a battle between 100 humans and one gorilla. Regardless of which side you’re on, it has produced some spirited debates and revelations about the animal kingdom.

WBZ NewsRadio’s James Rojas asked Bostonians who they think would come out on top. Some were more confident than others in their chances.

“At an average weight of 200 [pounds], you’d probably need four or five men,” said one man, unwavering in his faith in the humans.

“Probably the men. No, I don’t think it would be easy, but I think it would be the men,” said another man, preparing himself internally for the hypothetical clash.

Those who have thrown their hat behind the humans have rested their faith in the power of numbers, pointing to the fact that 100 humans would drastically outweigh even the largest gorilla. Those who have backed the gorilla point to its strength, with researchers saying a silverback gorilla can lift up to 1,800 pounds, not to mention a bite force of 1300 PSI.

“I think the gorilla would demolish everyone. That thing is huge,” said one woman, unaware that humans are actually on average taller than gorillas.

“I think they think they can, but they will all be dead,” said another woman.

“A gorilla is just going to keep swinging until all the guys die, so I don’t see 100 men being able to take down one singular gorilla,” said one man with no interest in joining the 100-man squadron.

Since there is no way to put this debate to the test, it will have to remain a hypothetical question. Similar to “is water wet” or “is a hot dog a sandwich,” this topic will likely be a light-hearted point of contention for years to come.

“It’s like Sudoku, but better,” said one man.

“100 percent, it’s good. I work in HR and I would use it as an ice breaker in a meeting,” said one woman.

“It’s a good way to exercise the brain with brain-rotting social media,” said another woman.
