BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Some local health centers are running special activities this week to recognize "National Health Center Week."
According to the National Health Center Week website, NHCW 'highlights the commitment and passion of community health center staff, board members, and supporters who make it possible to provide quality, comprehensive healthcare services to their patients.'
Located on Hanover Street in the North End, 'New Health' is one of the many neighborhood health centers celebrating NHCW with a series of activities this week.
New Health CEO Vin Scibelli said that it's a time to build awareness of how health centers serve vulnerable populations, such as seniors. "It's really to be the safety net and facility for vulnerable residents of our community," he said. "We provide high-quality health care to over 14,000 patients, and we provide care regardless of a person's ability to pay."
In recognition of NHCW, health fairs, produce distribution, a yoga class, and a healthy eating workshop were among the activities planned this week at New Health.
