BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Nearly 80 volunteers showed up at Franklin Park Saturday for the One Boston Day cleanup event.
The event was hosted by the city and the Franklin Park Coalition. President Rickie Thompson said he has been coming to this park his whole life.
“My mother takes me to the zoo when I was a little kid, and I ran track for English High School over here at the stadium and cross country track all through the woodlands,” he told WBZ NewsRadio.
For Brian, he said he hope to show that same impact and significance of keeping local playgrounds clean to his two kids. He was there with them at the cleanup.
“We’re advocates of making Franklin Park even better, so we want to be part of the movement,” he told WBZ NewsRadio.
Christopher also showed up with his daughter and said they aim to attend more community clean ups in the future.
“I gave her my word that we’re going to do more volunteering events so [I've got to] follow through with that,” he added.
Mayor Michelle Wu thanked the volunteers for their time amid the busy holiday weekend in Boston.
“It’s such a special tradition to come together with the franklin park coalition and all of the community members who spend so much time caring or this beautiful green treasure in Boston,” she said.
