BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — 320 people took a swim in the Charles River on July 13.
City Splash is a community event that allows residents to swim in the Charles River on the Esplanade. It is hosted by the Charles River Conservancy, and many participants said they had a lot of fun despite the overcast weather.
“It’s actually a lot warmer than I thought it’d be, I’ll be honest,” Desiree of Somerville told WBZ NewsRadio. "I definitely thought it was going to be freezing cold. It was actually a nice temperature."
A different Somerville resident added that he felt the river was much cleaner than the ocean.
Executive Director Laura Jasinski said that the goal of City Splash is to inspire local residents to be able to use the river.
“So we want folks to create that connection, have that experience, want more of it, and then get involved to how they can help to continue to make the river cleaner and healthier,” she said.
City Splash at the Charles River has been going on since 2013, but it didn't happen every single year.
“The last time we did was in 2022, so we’re really glad to get people back out in the water,” Jasinski said.
