MARBLEHEAD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — This week’s nor’easter brought high waves and excited surfers to a beach in Marblehead.
“Anytime you get a nor’easter or a system revving up the coast, it’s nice,” Delly of Marblehead told WBZ NewsRadio. “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.”
He was among the many surfers who braved the rain and cold temperatures Tuesday to tackle the swells, some as tall as 12 feet, at Devereux Beach.
Mike, who grew up in Gloucester, drove up from Alabama to experience the special seasonal occasion.
“[Yesterday], they were a little bit bigger,” he said. “Definitely not as clean or consistent [today].”
Delly said the nor’easter created some dangerous conditions and suggested beginners to sit this one out.
“Boards swiping around,” he continued. “You can get hid in the head with a fin. That’s [going to] get a nice gash, so know your limits [and] stay safe out there.”
According to the National Weather Service, parts of Eastern Mass. have received over 5 inches of rain over the last 48 hours.
Sporadic drizzles and rain continue Tuesday, AccuWeather forecasts. Clouds are expected to clear on Wednesday with temperatures rising to the mid-60s and 70s over the weekend.
