TEWKSBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Volunteers and women from Teamster Joint Council 10 across New England gathered Saturday in Tewksbury to prepare holiday packages for active service members and veterans.
Joan Corey, vice president of Teamster Local 25 in Boston, told WBZ NewsRadio that volunteers prepared 650 care packages to be shipped out on Monday. Some of the boxes are going out to soldiers stationed in Kuwait.
From basic personal care items to games and stamps, the packages include a little bit of everything, “but most importantly lots of love,” Corey added.
Volunteers from all across New England were all hands on deck, working together to get the job done.
“I say every year this project is so emotional but [in] a good way, because it’s like tears of happiness, and when we see the boxes complete and on palettes, you’re speechless,” said Traci St Clair from Teamster Local 633 in New Hampshire.
She has been a part of this event since the start, nearly a decade ago, and said the team effort is a prime example of what Teamster women are all about.
Corey has also been at the events since the beginning and kept coming back because “it’s the core of the American value as far as we’re concerned,” she said.
