BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It may seem fitting to some that the quintessential summer snack was being honored on a sweltering summer day.

Monday was National Hot Dog Day, and a good place to enjoy it was Logan Airport.

Terminal B not only had the air conditioners humming, but it was also the location of a hot dog giveaway.

MarketPlace Logan and Sam Adams Brewhouse teamed up to honor two of summer's most enjoyable pastimes, baseball and hot dogs.

Red Sox mascot Wally the Green Monster was on hand for the event to welcome travelers to Boston and hand out hot dogs.

MarketPlace Logan's Binni Patel said there's an undeniable synergy between summer, baseball, and hot dogs. "I think hot dogs signify summer, signify fun," she said. "This is the perfect time to get everybody ready for whatever vacation they're going on."

Passengers who ordered a menu item at the Sam Adams Brewhouse also received a free hot dog. "Nothing really says summer more than baseball and hot dogs, so we invited to have Wally here to Sam Adams to interact with passengers, pass out some hot dogs, really give everybody a taste of Fenway."

Established back in 1991, National Hot Dog Day is observed every year on a Wednesday in July.
