BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It's officially the longest government shutdown in U.S. history and to help out TSA workers who have missed two pay periods, Boston Logan International Airport is hosting a food bank at Terminal C specifically for its workers.

Around a thousand workers at Logan have missed that second paycheck, so to lighten the financial load the American Federation of Government Employees Local 2617 (AFGE) is bringing their groceries to them. Mike Gayzagian, President of AFGE Local 2617 the TSA officer's union, told WBZ NewsRadio's James Rojas that there will be things like canned soups, fruits, and hygiene products up for grabs when the food bank opens Saturday.

A TSA food bank is already up and running in Maine.

"Morale is very low amongst the officers, everybody's very frustrated that this thing is continuing. A lot of people have requested baby items, formula, diapers— things like that. Obviously we can't do perishable foods so it's going to be non-perishable foods," Gayzagian said.

WBZ NewsRadio's James Rojas reports.
