SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Saturday morning the Green Line Extension Community Path opened up for public use through Somerville, though some pedestrians have been using the passageway for a while now.
“The GLX Community Path offers a critical connection point between public transportation and the many wonderful pathways, bikeways, and other community spaces in Somerville and beyond,” said Governor Maura Healey.
Resident and cyclist Belinda tells WBZ's Kendall Buhl that she was pushing for the project for years.
"I was actually part of the committee to extend the community path back in the nineties and I gave up, but now here it is— it looks great," Belinda said.

The off-street path runs along the Green Line from Lowell Street in Somerville to Cambridge Crossing, parallel to the GLX Medford Branch.
"I might be able to use this path to get down to the city as well, definitely excited to see it finally open," a commuter named Matt said.
According to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, the network stretches 13.2 miles to serve about 900,000 people from Bedford, Lexington, Arlington, Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston.
