DORCHESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The third-largest Mega Millions jackpot worth an estimated $1.55 billion is up for grabs tonight.
The multi-state game has now gone 31 consecutive drawings without a big winner.
Nobody has hit all six numbers since April 18. Since that day, lottery officials say about 28 million Mega Millions tickets have been sold in Massachusetts.
Despite the incredibly long odds against winning, 1 in 302 million, lotto player confidence was running high in Dorchester's Uphams Corner today. "I'm going to be a millionaire!" exclaimed CJ as he bought a coffee and a ticket. After a pause, he corrected himself. "I'm going to be... a billionaire!"
It's easy to lose track when so much money is at stake. If someone is lucky enough to win tonight and chooses to receive one lump sum cash payout, that comes out to a cool $750 million before taxes.
Leroy said if he wins, it's 'retirement city.' "I'm going to retire," he laughed. "That's what I'm going to do with all that money. No more work."
