BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — With Boston featuring one of the largest Dominican communities in the country, Sunday's Dominican Parade and Festival was a raucous affair.
The celebration started with a parade from Center Street in Jamaica Plain to Franklin Park where thousands showed up ready to party. "Just to have fun, support my country ... you know, chill and vibe," said one attendee.
One end of the field was dominated by a stage for live entertainment.
There was lots of dancing and food too.
Dominican merchandise including red, white, and blue Dominican flags were also big sellers. "I'm super-proud to be Dominican!" exclaimed another festival guest.
Meanwhile, an investigation is underway into a shooting as the festival was winding down that wounded five people.
Boston Police said they heard multiple gunshots go off just before 9 p.m. as people were leaving the festival.
Police said five victims with non-life-threatening injuries were found near Circuit Drive in Roxbury and taken to the hospital.
