LOWELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Sunday is the final day for the 2023 Lowell Folk Festival.

The three-day event is the one of the largest free folk festivals in the United States, with food, music, dance, and art from all over the world. It began in 1990 after Lowell hosted the National Folk Festival for three consecutive years and wanted to continue the experience.

"I love the access that we get to all different kinds of foods that we don’t have the rest of the time of the year," Keelyn Sabini of Lowell told WBZ NewsRadio Saturday. "And the music, same thing, you get to hear music that you’re not going to hear in your everyday life, so it’s the best weekend of the year."

"I love the food and being able to walk the city, it’s a beautiful time of year," said one attendant.

"You know the art scene here in Lowell is so strong, so it’s just great to come out here and spend a summer day," another said.

Saturday's festivities were cut short due to bad weather, sending crowds to packed bars and restaurants in downtown Lowell. Sunday is expected to have clear skies and warm weather all day long.

A full schedule of Sunday's activities can be found here.
