LOWELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Lowell Police surprised a local high school student with a brand new scooter after his was stolen a week earlier.
17 year-old Faheem goes to Lowell High School. He recently purchased an electric scooter with his own money to be his main mode of transportation.
“it brings me from home to school then to practice then back home,” Faheem told WBZ NewsRadio.
After only two days owning it, his scooter was stolen right off of campus. “They showed me the [surveillance] video and I was bummed out,” he said.
He reported the incident to his school Resource Officer Tim Sullivan, who said he knew the scooter was important to Faheem. “He looked heartbroken when I spoked with him,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan decided to reach out to Jose Santiago, secretary of the Lowell Patrol Officer’s Union.
After hearing the story, the officer union pulled together donations, purchased the same scooter, and gifted it Faheem.
“We just want to make a wrong a right,” Santiago told WBZ NewsRadio. “Just want to make sure that he has the transportation to go back to school.”
The Lowell Patrol Officer’s Union pulled more than $300 from their fund. “We use it for donations, things like this,” Santiago added.
When the officer showed Faheem his new scooter, he couldn’t believe the kind gesture. “It was so generous of them,” Faheem said.
