LOWELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Lowell Summer Music Series is back for its 35th season with a dozen performances scheduled at Boarding House Park.
The live music series kicks off Friday with the Celtic band Gaelic Storm, featuring Lowell native Natalya Kay on the fiddle.
James Macdonald, the director of the series, said there’s something for everyone.
“Throughout the summer, it’s a great mix of everything,” Macdonald said.
This year’s mix includes everyone from Darlene Love and Grace Potter to the Eagles tribute band Eaglemania.
The concerts are put on in a fun, casual setting. It’s also family-friendly, which means no alcohol.
“The best part about it is you can bring your own chair, you can bring a picnic, settle in the park for a really relaxed down-home concert experience that you just don't get these days,” Macdonald said. “It's not just the great music, but it's also a night in the park.”
The series is hosted by the nonprofit Lowell Festival Foundation. Along with the main Summer Music Series, there’s also “Free Fun For Kids," with music and shows on Wednesday and Thursday mornings, and the annual Banjo and Fiddle Contest.
Tickets for the summer music series are available here.
