Lowell Woman: Someone Else's Headstone On Mother's Grave

LOWELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Lowell woman and her family say there's a possible mix-up at a city-owned cemetery.

Every day, Bermaliz Berrios pays her respects at Lowell's Westlawn 2 Cemetery. But three months to the day of her mother's passing, she was shocked to find someone else's gravestone on her mother's grave.

"I'm just not gonna tolerate that happening to my mom," she said. "I promised her that her grave would always be looking nice, no matter where she were—and that's what I'm gonna do."

She said the groundskeeper told her there was a mistake, and that they will probably have to open her mother's grave to determine who is buried there for sure.

"Her stone is being made, and I just don't want it to be put in the wrong spot," she said.
