LOWELL, Mass (WBZ NewsRadio) – Salem the service dog is more than just Destiny Lomonte’s best friend.

The chocolate lab can detect when his owner is about to have a seizure and can protect her head with his paws.

However, Salem possesses another talent, one that requires a canvas, paint, plastic wrapping and some peanut butter.

“Everyone says the same thing they’re like, ‘this actually looks good. This dog can actually paint,” Lomonte says.

The Lowell woman is returning the favor of her life-saving dog, diagnosed with a chronic and potentially deadly kidney condition, by selling his artwork to people all across the country.

“It just blew up and everyone’s like, ‘I want to help you,” Lomonte says, “I am just so grateful.”

Salem’s artwork can be found on his Facebook page called Salem’s Creations. Pieces go for 35 dollars apiece and the proceeds go towards the thousands of dollars required for the dog’s lifetime of treatment.
