BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — AT&T recently opened a new Connected Learning Center inside the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston’s Edgerley Family South Boston Club to provide internet access and provide educational tools to residents who experience challenges when it comes to accessing online resources.
Robert Lewis Jr., Nicholas President and CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston said that this new program opens new doors and opportunities for Boston’s youth.
“Our youth members are the future of Boston, Chelsea, and the Commonwealth, and this investment in our young people’s futures is a tremendous example of how Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston continues to partner with organizations to be change agents in our communities.”

Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, who visited with the Ready to Work teens at the Connected Learning Center, attended the event.
“The incredible teens in the Ready to Work program are the future of our Massachusetts economy and workforce. The Connected Learning Center will make sure that young people have access to the digital tools they need to succeed and will help us close the digital divide.”
The completion of this center is the latest project in AT&T’s longstanding collaboration with the BGCB. This event comes on the heels of a prior event in 2023 when AT&T hosted a career fair for teenagers who participated in the Ready to Work program, during which the teenagers were surprised with 250 free laptops.

According to a press release, AT&T opens centers within local nonprofit organizations that are already adept at supporting underserved populations within their community.
The wireless company plans to offer more than 50 locations by mid-2024.
