LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A construction worker was rescued Friday morning after he was trapped by metal debris.

The man was installing rebar in preparation for installing concrete walls at a high-rise apartment building on Munroe Street when the debris fell on him.

WBZ NewsRadio's Kristen Eck was over the scene as Lynn firefighters got the worker out, and brought him to a medical helicopter waiting nearby.

Chris Galatis of the New England Regional Council of Carpenters was on-site when something went wrong. The rebar collapsed, pinning workers below. Two escaped.

"A few workers were down in the hole, something let go and crushed them, and one had to be extricated using the jaws of life," he told WBZ NewsRadio's Mike Macklin.

The worker was flown to a Boston hospital for treatment.

There was no word yet on his condition.

Federal OSHA inspectors are now on site to investigate.
