Lynn Opens New Park Where Landfill Used To Be

LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The city of Lynn held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday for a new park on the former site of a municipal landfill.

The new Lynn Harbor Park on the Hanson Street waterfront "reconnects the community to the shoreline for the first time in generations," the city said in a statement.

Several public officials, including Lynn Mayor Jared C. Nicholson and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll, attended the event, as did local residents.

"It's just nice to see Lynn cleaning up the city," one resident said.

The 30-acre park is located at 14 Hanson St. The site used to be a landfill, but now it features walking trails, trees and a recreation area.

"I can't believe that it used to be a landfill," one longtime resident said. "I can't see it."
