LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The city of Lynn has received a state grant of nearly $500 thousand to train adults for high-demand careers.

This is the second year the city has received such a grant. The first grant was for $200 thousand.

“We had 20 slots last year. And with this new grant we are going to triple the size of the program, and it’ll be 60 slots,” Lynn Mayor Jared Nicholson said.

In addition to the return of auto tech and welding training, Mayor Nicholson said plumbing training will be available.

“These careers are accessible, so once you get the skills, you can get the employment,” the mayor said. “And they are in high demand and that’s sustained over time. And so, we think these are great opportunities for our residents.”

The training is being done through Lynn Vocational Technical Institute. The application process will start in September.
