Lynn Residential Blaze Collapses House, Spreading Brush Fire Into Woods

LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Saturday afternoon the Lynn Fire Department responded to a large residential fire on Broadway Street, which at one point, engulfed the entire two and a half story wood structure.

Fire officials said that the flames had also sparked a brush fire, spanning multiple acres in the woods behind the building. The LFD said that the inferno on the building had escalated to a four-alarm fire before it was under control.

Firefighters from surrounding communities joined the effort to fight the blaze, and by 1:30 p.m., officials said that the fire had been contained.

According to the LFD, the house contained five separate apartments and is believed to be a total loss. Fire officials said that all residents were able to get out safely, and that one firefighter had to be taken to a local hospital to be treated for exhaustion.
