LYNNFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A team of volunteers in Lynnfield restored and repaired the boardwalk that provides visitor access to the state's largest freshwater cattail marsh.
Once that project was completed, Planning and Conservation Director Emile Cademartori announced the establishment of an account where residents can send their donations to support similar projects.
Fixing the town's Partridge Island Boardwalk was a big project that included replacing damaged boards from the two long sections of boardwalk that create a path through the woodlands over Reedy Meadow.
The group of nine volunteers working in the rain was joined by volunteers from Friends of the Lynnfield Rail Trail and other town organizations.
One of the team leaders was Richard Kosian of the Town’s Open Space & Recreation Working Group. "It was kind of a rainy day and I'm not as young as I used to be," Kosian laughed. "But it is rewarding."
In fact, residents were so grateful for the boardwalk's repairs that they started making donations to support other projects.
The town established an account for those donations, something Kosian said will help protect and sustain the town's natural resources. "One of our objectives is to promote awareness of the open spaces and to rally people around preserving them," he said.
