LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A nonprofit in Lynn has partnered with Boston Design Week to offer a tour of the city’s public artworks.
Beyond Walls has installed almost 100 large-scale street art pieces across Lynn as part of their mission to address community needs using a creative lens.
“A big part of what we do is community and economic development, and the mom-and-pop eateries and the bodegas and the shops are really the lifeblood” of Beyond Walls, said Al Wilson, the founder and CEO.
The goal of their public art initiatives is to “enhance the physical landscape” while also contributing to positive economic change, according to their website.
Dozens of international and local artists have traveled to Lynn to create street art, and on Wednesday evening, the Beyond Walls team is leading a tour of many of the artworks.
Wilson explained that the tour shares the context behind the public art, such as “the fun stories behind the art, the meaning behind the art, [and] the things that happen during the installs.”
The tour is a collaboration with Boston Design Week, which is part of an international coalition, World Design Weeks, aiming to share knowledge, resources, and ideas in the design industry.
Wilson said that the Beyond Walls Street Art Tour in Lynn is “a unique experience. You get to run around looking at great pieces of art.”
He added that it’s an opportunity to promote small businesses and meet other art enthusiasts.
“You’ll get to chat with some folks that you don’t know and maybe strike up a friendship, all underneath fantastic pieces of artwork.”
The tour begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening, and the public artwork is on display 24/7 in Lynn.
