Machine Gun Training Range Gets Federal Approval On Cape Cod

BOURNE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A proposed machine gun training range at a National Guard base on Cape Cod received approval this week from a federal agency.

On Tuesday, the National Guard Bureau said they determined the range would not significantly affect the region's environment. The range will be at Camp Edwards on Joint Base Cape Cod.

However, some people have raised concerns about how this new range would impact wildlife habitats and the areas water supply.

Residents, environmental activists, and state and federal lawmakers are among those that have expressed their concerns.

The National Guard said the range is environmentally safe. The project will now be reviewed by the Massachusetts Environmental Management Commission.
