BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Maine resort got their first snowfall of the season early Friday morning.

The snow was recorded falling around 3:30 a.m. at the Sunday River Resort in Newry, Maine.

"Typically we open on or around Halloween each year," Sunday River Director of Communications Karolyn Castaldo said. "Last season, we were able to open on October 19 after getting some natural snow and 36 hours straight of sustained cold temperatures for snow making. So, it's not out of the realm of possibility that we could be open in the next few weeks."

About one inch of snow was reported, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Derek Schroeder.

"It looks like the snow has already melted off," Schroeder said.
