Major Leak Causes Evacuation At Stoughton Health Care Facility

STOUGHTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Almost two dozen patients were evacuated from a Stoughton health care facility due to what has been described as a major water leak.

Stoughton Fire, along with 27 other companies, responded to Cura Health on Sumner Street after a major leak flooding a wing, according to Stoughton Fire Chief Michael Laracy. Because it is an older building, it was difficult to find the main valve, according to Laracy.

“At this point right now we’re evacuating 22 patients from this facility to other facilities that can take care of them,” Laracy said. “Out of those 22 patients — roughly 22, —seven to eight were on ventilators.”

Laracy said the biggest concern was the possibility of losing power due to the patients on life support.
